The above link from the Guardian points to an article that shows plans for Dyson and their foray into the world of EVs. It’s no secret that Dyson were planning on launching an EV, but the company has done a good job of ensuring all information regarding any Dyson-branded EV was to be kept firmly under wraps by employees.
The article highlights that founder Sir James Dyson was going to give us an EV that was “radically different” from all others. But a closer look at the drawings reveals that it is really nothing too earth shattering. Yes, the wheels are perhaps closer to the front and back (respectively) of the vehicle, and yes it would appear that the seats are quite low (courtesy of thinner battery packs, apparently) but the reality is that this could be a “new” EV launched by any of the major car manufacturers, including Tesla. This isn’t a bad thing per se, but I fear people will be quite willing to forego the promised radically different design that was promised simply because this is a product that comes out of the Dyson workshop and as such should be… brilliant.
Time will tell. So far, Dyson is already a year behind the target launch date (now 2021, from 2020) and will be released in select Asian markets only. Watch this space…
